Dating is not the time for intimacy. It is the time for investigation.
Many people enter dating believing the fastest way to build a connection is through emotional, physical, or sexual intimacy. Yet the purpose of dating is not to act like you are already married. It is to discover whether the relationship has the character, values, and direction that can sustain a lifelong covenant.
Investigation means paying attention to what conversations reveal. Listen to how they speak about family, money, faith, conflict, and commitment. Watch how they treat strangers, keep promises, and respond when they do not get their way. These moments often reveal more than romantic words ever will.
Do not let attraction silence discernment. A healthy relationship gives you room to ask difficult questions, set boundaries, and observe consistent behavior without feeling pressured to prove your love. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to guard our hearts because everything in life flows from them.
Before your heart becomes deeply attached, ask yourself: What have I learned about this person's character beyond the chemistry? Am I investigating wisely, or am I rushing into intimacy before trust has been established? If this relationship were built only on what I know today, would it be strong enough to last?
